Charlton Winter Shield - Charlton Athletic Training Grounds

28th November and 5th December

Both our boys and girls football teams were in action at the Charlton Winter shield recently.

Our boys were in a very tough group, but performed exceptionally well winning 3 of their first 4 games.  Their progress depended on a win in the final game, and in a very close encounter the opposition scored a last second free kick which knocked the boys out by 1 point.   Their performance was exceptional with special mention for Elijah and Harry in goal who both were outstanding in every game.

Our girls were playing in their first tournament together and their application, attitude and effort was absolutely top class. They won 4 of their 5 group games which was enough to seal a place in the quarter final against the Southborough school, the strongest and most experienced team in the competition who had won two of their games 9-0 and 8-0.   The girls showed no fear and played remarkably well to narrowly lose 4-2 but they left with their heads held high and looking forward to the next tournament. Southborough ended up winning the final 7-0 which shows just how close the girls were and bodes extremely well for future tournaments.   Nia, Chizaram and Mary were outstanding performers in every game.

A big well done to all the boys and girls who have represented the school with great pride.
